Hot Club Faux Gitane

Hot Club Faux Gitane

Nov. 17, 2019

An acoustic swing band like no other, Hot Club Faux Gitane* draws inspiration from the Gypsy jazz tradition pioneered by Django Reinhardt and his Quintette du Hot Club de France, with acoustic guitars and double bass providing the rhythmic core. The group’s unique instrumentation features mandolin, bassoon, and vocals, with occasional clarinet and melodica. Inventive and witty arrangements augment traditional Gypsy repertoire with original compositions, jazz standards, Latin tunes, and hints of Eastern European Klezmer. This is upbeat, toe-tapping music that will have you bopping in your seat, if not dancing in the aisles!    [fauxgitane.com]

[* Roughly translated, our name means “Hot Club of the Fake Gypsies.” Yes, we know it’s not proper French.]

The Ronstadt Brothers

The Ronstadt Brothers

Sept. 8, 2019

The Ronstadt Brothers carry forward a sound closely tied in its infancy to their aunt Linda Ronstadt and their musician/composer father, Michael Ronstadt. The brothers, Michael Gilbert and Peter Dalton, with drummer Aaron Emery, present a new fresh take on the traditional Southwestern and Mexican songs of the Ronstadt family’s heritage along with innovative originals for millennials discovering the treasure of roots music.

These outstanding young musicians are committed to “preserv[ing] and redefin[ing] a century-plus family tradition, integral to the diverse tapestry of American music.” (Stephanie P. Ledgin, author, Discovering Folk Music).  [facebook.com/RonstadtBrothers]

Our multi-talented Sunday Afternoons at CBS Valentine, Christine Capsuto Shulman, will grace the stage once again with her equally amazingly talented friend, Elizabeth Neff, as they carry forward our supremely entertaining and fun-filled afternoon tea cabaret in the tradition established by our original Valentine, Grace Lieberman.

This year’s tea will honor the memory of our dear friend and unparalleled pastry chef, David Bradford, who sadly left us in early 2019. David’s proteges, The Riverbank H.S. Culinary Class, will continue to carry on the delicious tea tradition David initiated several years ago.

Please purchase early, as there are a limited number of tables for this special event.  Special pricing for this event:  $25 for Season Ticket holders, $35 for individual tickets.
