Nov. 9, 2014 — Joe Craven with Mamajowali

Next up….

MamajowaliSeamlessly interweaving two continents and three bright musical sensibilities, Mamajowali is Joe Craven, Mamadou Sidibe, and Walter Strauss–three veteran musicians who have found common ground in a new and unique sound.

Their blend of kamale ngoni (the hunter’s harp) with six-string guitar, percussion, fiddle, mandolin, and singing is traditional, innovative, and uncommon–all at the same time. Mamajowali overlays West African music, old-time Americana, and spirited originals with hoppin’ high energy grooves and tons of improvisational trialogue.  Come listen to a sound you’ve never heard–“Afromericana!”

Hattie Craven

Also appearing is Hattie Craven, Joe’s 13-year-old daughter–already an accomplished actor, singer, songwriter.

Oct. 12, 2014 — Cradle Duende

Those lucky enough to be here in July 2013 let us know how much they enjoyed Justin Ancheta and Morgan Nilsen, lead members of Cradle Duende, when they were here for a special summer concert. You asked to have them back, and we listened. On Sunday October 12 at 3 pm Nilsen, Justin, and the full 6-piece Cradle Duende Band will “bring the party” back when they take the stage at Sunday Afternoons at CBS.  Words like Klezmenco, Klezmer, Balkan and Latin rhythms, with eco-conscious hip-hop lyrics don’t begin to explain the experience these global musicians bring.

So mark your calendars for 3:00pm Sunday, come on over, leave your everyday “have to’s” and “shoulds” behind, enjoy the party, then go home recharged and “whistling a happy tune.”

Welcome!

Welcome to the new, dedicated web home of Sunday Afternoons at CBS!

In our previous “web life” we were a page within the greater site of our hosts, Congregation Beth Shalom.  Now we have a dedicated space and address, hopefully making it easier to find and promote our concerts.

Design and hosting has been donated by Dan Langhoff, owner of Information Management Associates.  I.M.A. has provided a wide variety of I.T. consulting services to the Valley since 1985.
