Leah Shoshanah, a Chicago-based singer, songwriter, and cantor, plays original world-folk, Jewish, and children’s music. For this concert she will be sharing originals and covers traversing genres and languages from Brazilian sambas to Ladino and Israeli folk tunes, opera arias to Broadway show hits.

Season 27

Season 27 of Sunday Afternoons at CBS will commence in October 2018.

Performers gracing our stage in the 2018-19 season are:  Tom Rigney & Flambeau, Chris Pucci, Redwood Tango Ensemble, Christine Capsuto & Jennifer Neff (for the 4th Annual Grace Lieberman Tribute Valentine Concert & Tea), VOENA Children’s Chorus, and Incendio.  More details will be available here as we freshen the site this Summer.

Our 26th season kicks off with Barrio Manouche, a San Francisco-based international septet.

Barrio Manouche plays music that will take you on a magical journey of “Flamenco Gypsy Jazz.” Recognized for their innovative style, complex technique, and their passion for their musical improvisation, their repertoire is instantly recognizable as deeply influenced by a range of musical traditions.

Our 25th anniversary season concludes with Genticorum, who bring their rousing repertoire of Musique du Québec to Modesto once again.

Last appearing at Sunday Afternoons in 2008, they have become a fixture on the international world, trad, folk, and Celtic music circuit. Their distinctive sound, sense of humor, and stage presence make them a supreme crowd pleaser.

California Zephyr steams into Modesto for a rare appearance. The band, featuring Modesto natives Alan Arnopole and Steve Ewert, is celebrating its 41-year career with the release of their seventh album, Snakes ‘n Gators—praised as “The Rubber Soul of Americana recordings.”

Guitar phenomenon Clive Carroll’s masterful compositions, coupled with his versatility and unparalleled technical virtuosity, have rendered him one of today’s most admired and respected guitarists.

Clive has released four solo albums, and has written music for television and film—most notably, composing the music for the film “Driving Lessons” (featuring Julie Walters and Rupert Grint of “Harry Potter” fame).  Clive’s newest CD, The Furthest Tree, was released in May 2016 and is already being hailed as some of his finest work to date.

Modesto audiences may remember his appearance here in February 2015, opening for Tommy Emmanuel.

25th Anniversary Season Announced

Thanks to all the artists and volunteers who made the 2015-16 season so memorable!

That said, we’re already planning to make next season special.  It will mark the 25th year of this concert series, and will continue our tradition of bringing high-quality musicians that will entertain every taste and age.  Acts will range from hometown favorites (California Zephyr, Patty Castillo Davis, and Grace Lieberman & Friends) to international talents (Clive Carroll, Genticorum).
